GRE Tubing (Glass Reinforced Epoxy): What Buyers Spec Before RFQ

GRE Tubing (Glass Reinforced Epoxy): What Buyers Spec Before RFQ

GRE tubing (glass reinforced epoxy tubing, also called fiberglass tubing or GRE downhole tubing) is rigid thermoset tubular for well and completion-adjacent service: a resin-rich epoxy liner, glass-fiber structural wall and threaded pin/box or coupling ends. Buyers freeze the well duty, then confirm size basis, pressure-temperature, thread/coupling and documents against the offered drawing.

IFGS sources glass reinforced epoxy tubing and related tubulars from licensed partner factories in China and worldwide and handles spec confirmation, procurement and pre-shipment QC. IFGS has no factory of its own; it connects buyers to licensed partner factories in China and worldwide. This buyer RFQ guide is for anyone searching gre tubing, glass reinforced epoxy tubing, GRE downhole tubing or API 15HR tubing who needs a quotable enquiry. Start from the GRE Tubing product page or API 15HR GRE Tubing. No API monogram or certification is claimed here.

What the IFGS GRE tubing pages actually publish

The live product pages treat GRE tubing as a configuration-specific string, not a free-standing datasheet guarantee. Both ask you to share well arrangement, fluid, temperature, pressure and connection requirements, then request the drawing and technical data for the exact offer:

  • GRE Tubing frames glass-reinforced epoxy tubing for project-specific well applications. It lists project inputs (well duty, fluid and temperature, internal/external pressure, axial loads, dimensions and connections) and tells buyers to mark undecided fields “Not sure yet.”
  • API 15HR GRE Tubing is for enquiries that reference API Spec 15HR. It asks for well or pipeline conditions and a connection drawing so the offered configuration can be reviewed. Catalogue diameter and pressure ranges on that page are reference ranges only; request the size-specific rating and connection limits.

Neither page publishes a generic datasheet as a guarantee. Confirm material compatibility, dimensions, connection details and the conditions that apply to any published rating before ordering. Broader product browsing starts at IFGS products. Slotted or perforated sand-control duty belongs on GRE Screens & Pipes—link it; this page does not rehash screens.

Tubing vs line pipe naming (15HR ≠ 15LR ≠ 15S)

Same material class, different procurement scope. GRE tubing usually means a well or completion-adjacent string with threaded ends. GRE pipe / GRE line pipe usually means rigid surface gathering, injection or transfer stick pipe with a joint family. Freeze the family before comparing bids. Terminology twin (link, don’t rehash): GRE tubing vs GRE pipe. Surface line-pipe RFQ lives at the GRE pipe buyers guide.

API Spec 15HR, 15LR and 15S are not interchangeable labels. 15HR and 15LR address rigid fiberglass line-pipe / tubing document families many end users cite. API Spec 15S is spoolable reinforced plastic line pipe (RTP)—never call GRE tubing API 15S. Background: API 15HR vs API 15LR.

GRE tubing vs GRE line pipe vs steel tubing

This is a qualitative comparison only. It gives no ratings.

Service role, joints/threads, corrosion and weight fit, and what the buyer must confirm. Qualitative only, no numbers.
  • GRE tubing (downhole / well string). Glass fiber in an epoxy matrix, typically supplied as stick tubular with threaded pin/box or coupling ends. Chosen when corrosion, weight and a threaded completion interface matter. Confirm size basis (OD/ID or nominal), pressure-temperature, thread/coupling and documents for the offered string.
  • GRE line pipe (surface). Same thermoset class for gathering, injection or transfer, with joint families rather than a well-string thread plan. Keep surface line pipe out of a tubing RFQ. See the GRE pipe buyers guide and the FRP pipe buyers guide when stick surface pipe is required.
  • Steel tubing. Familiar threads and installer practice, but heavy, and corrosion resistance depends on metallurgy, inhibitors or liners surviving at connections. Confirm metallurgy and connection plan.

The non-metallic pipe selector (GRE vs FRP vs RTP) covers the class choice when the RFQ still has to pick a family. Casing twin: fiberglass well casing buyers guide.

Threads, couplings and related tubulars

GRE tubing is a pipe-and-connection system. Name the thread or coupling preference you expect, or ask the factory to propose one that matches the offered construction and interfaces. Do not rehash coupling families here—use fiberglass coupling types for GRE/FRP. For sucker-rod enquiries only when that is the real need, use the fiberglass sucker rod buyers guide; this page does not duplicate it.

API Spec 15HR: which documents to ask for

API Spec 15HR is titled High Pressure Fiberglass Line Pipe. Buyers and end users may require high-pressure fiberglass documentation for GRE tubing or line-pipe contexts. If your tender cites 15HR (or 15LR for a lower-pressure fiberglass scope), say which one and ask the supplier for the documents that go with the offered construction, size basis and connection. A standard reference alone is not certification. Never call GRE tubing API 15S. This page does not claim IFGS conformance, a monogram or any certification. For the short document-language twin see API 15HR / 15LR GRE tubing RFQ and API 15HR vs API 15LR.

RFQ field checklist

  1. Well / service fluid: production, injection, polymer or other well duty; include known chemistry, gas, solids and additives.
  2. Size basis: say whether you mean OD, ID or nominal size, and request dimensions with tolerances on one drawing.
  3. Operating and design pressure: internal and external / differential conditions, design or test basis, and units.
  4. Temperature: operating and design, with units.
  5. Thread / coupling: preferred family, pin/box drawing, seals and equipment interfaces, or ask the factory to propose a matched set.
  6. Length: proposed installed length, piece length if fixed, and handling limits.
  7. Quantity: joint count or total length, spares if needed.
  8. Destination and delivery window. Shipped from the licensed partner factory selected for your order.
  9. Documents required: drawing, datasheet, connection information, test and inspection records. Name any API Spec your end user cites (often 15HR for high-pressure fiberglass contexts; never 15S for GRE tubing).

If size basis, pressure-temperature conditions or thread/coupling are blank, quotes will not line up. Mark unknowns “Not sure yet” and ask the factory to confirm.

How IFGS works on this order

IFGS is a sourcing and QC partner: it connects buyers to licensed partner factories in China and worldwide and handles spec confirmation, procurement and pre-shipment QC. Set the GRE tubing construction, well service and connection here, then confirm documents against the drawing. IFGS has no factory of its own and does not claim a monogram, and we quote no rating the catalog does not print as a confirmed datasheet. Browse IFGS products or the GRE Tubing page.

FAQ

What is GRE tubing?

GRE tubing is glass reinforced epoxy tubing: continuous glass fiber in an epoxy resin matrix, usually supplied as rigid stick tubular with threaded ends for well or completion-adjacent duty. Buyers also say fiberglass tubing or GRE downhole tubing. Confirm the offered construction and drawing before you treat any catalogue figure as a rating.

GRE tubing vs GRE pipe: which do I need?

A well or completion string is GRE tubing; surface gathering, injection or transfer is GRE line pipe. Same material class, different RFQ. See GRE tubing vs GRE pipe.

Is GRE tubing the same as fiberglass tubing?

In oilfield buyer language, yes—fiberglass tubing usually points at the same glass-reinforced thermoset tubular idea. GRE names the epoxy resin matrix. Ask the supplier for the resin system and documents on the datasheet, not only the acronym.
