RTP Pipe Fittings: What Buyers Spec for Spoolable Systems
RTP pipe fittings are the end fittings, mid-line couplers or joints, and terminations that connect spoolable reinforced thermoplastic pipe on API Spec 15S systems — so the reel string seals, carries load, and ties into steel or process equipment. Spec them with the reel, not after the pipe quote.
IFGS manufactures GRE / FRP / RTP oilfield equipment in Dongying, China. We do not claim a USA factory. This page is a buyer RFQ guide for fittings on spoolable systems. It does not redo the supplier-qualify article — qualify the RTP supplier separately. No UL 1316 tank content and no fake certificate or monogram claims here.

What buyers mean by “RTP pipe fittings”
On bid forms, RTP pipe fittings, RTP end fittings, and API 15S joints are often mixed. Freeze three scopes before you compare prices:
- End fittings — factory or field terminations that grip the liner and reinforcement so the spoolable pipe can flange, weld-prep, or mate to a coupler. Most unequal bids hide missing end-fitting count or type here.
- Mid-line couplers / joints — connectors that join reel lengths or repair cuts without converting the whole string to stick GRE. Name the coupler family with the construction you buy.
- Terminations / tie-ins — how the fitted end lands on steel risers, headers, or process flanges. Include gasket, bolt, and test scope if the fitting seller owns that interface.
Do not paste stick GRE / FRP coupling language (API Spec 15HR / 15LR) into an RTP fittings line. Spoolable systems stay on API Spec 15S language only.

Spec checklist tied to the reel / spool
Fittings inherit the spoolable string. Put these fields on the same sheet as the pipe:
- Pressure class — design / operating / test pressure as project fields; do not invent plant acceptance numbers on the RFQ.
- Temperature — continuous and upset; cold pad install vs hot fluid both matter for seals and make-up.
- Fluid / medium — produced water, injection, oil, gas; note H₂S, CO₂, aromatics, salinity if known.
- OD / ID or size class — match the exact RTP construction and liner OD the plant runs on reels.
- Bend / MBR — minimum bend radius and reel drum limits so fittings and handling do not conflict with the lay plan.
- Install method — surface, buried, or mixed; pull-in vs lay; crane / trailer constraints at the pad.
If any of these are blank, fittings quotes will diverge on spare kits and lead time before the pipe meter price does.
API Spec 15S language only
Keep tender and quote language on API Spec 15S for spoolable RTP / reinforced thermoplastic / flexible composite systems. Do not label RTP end fittings as 15HR or 15LR stick GRE couplings. Treat website “API” adjectives as marketing until the quote pack names construction, tests, and documents you will buy — ask the plant what it will document; do not invent monograms.

RFQ field checklist + spare kits / QA
- Product family — spoolable RTP fittings (not stick GRE/FRP couplings).
- Standards frame — API Spec 15S when that is your tender language.
- OD / ID and design pressure / temperature as project fields.
- Fluid and corrosives (H₂S / CO₂ / aromatics if known).
- End-fitting type — flange, weld-prep, or named coupler interface; qty at each end of each reel length.
- Mid-line coupler / joint type — if reels join in the field; geometry and seal kit named.
- Termination / tie-in — steel interface, gasket class, test hold if in seller scope.
- Spare kits — seals, grippers, make-up consumables, and recommended % of fittings.
- QA documents — fitting datasheet, ITP outline, install / make-up procedure, material / traceability as required.
- Logistics — fittings packed with reels or separate crates; destination and unload notes.
Install and spare pitfalls
- Do: name end fitting vs mid-line coupler vs termination; attach make-up procedure; protect fitted ends in transit; keep spare seal kits on the pad; pressure-test per the agreed ITP before bury or commission.
- Don’t: write “RTP fittings or equal” without type; mix 15HR/15LR stick GRE couplings into a 15S reel RFQ; buy pipe meters first and “add fittings later”; skip spare kits to win price; assume steel gasket practice fits every RTP end seal.

FAQ
Are RTP pipe fittings the same as GRE fiberglass couplings?
No. Spoolable RTP fittings sit with API Spec 15S and the reel construction. Stick GRE/FRP couplings usually sit with 15HR / 15LR language. Keep them on separate RFQs.
Should I use this page instead of the manufacturers qualification guide?
No. This page specs fittings on the spoolable system. Qualify the supplier separately before you freeze price.
Does IFGS have a USA factory?
No. Dongying, China only on this page.
