Iraq API 15S RTP Logistics: Spools, Highway Convoy, Port, and Site Receive (2025)

For a 10 km onshore API Spec 15S RTP string, logistics is half the job. Stick steel is priced in joints and weld crews; spoolable RTP is priced in reels, multimodal lifts, and site crane plans.

This article is the shipping / handling story that sits beside the published 2025 Iraq south case — 6 inch, 1500 psi, 85 °C, 10 km. It does not re-tell trench pull and ROW install. Read the install case here: Iraq South oilfield 6″ API 15S RTP 10 km (2025).

IFGS manufactures in Dongying, China. No operator name, vessel name, port name, TEU count, or door-to-door day count is invented below.

Why logistics is half the 10 km RTP story

Stick steel mindsetSpoolable 15S RTP mindset
Many short joints, many field weldsLong continuous lengths on reels / spools
Truck count ≈ joint bundlesTruck count ≈ reel OD, weight, escort rules
NDE on every weldHandling limits: bend radius, max pull, lift points
Port as “pipe cargo”Port as oversized reel lifts onto ship / trailer

Buyers who only quote “pipe meterage” without reel geometry and destination handling get unequal bids. This is still API Spec 15S spoolable composite — not GRE tubular shipping under 15HR / 15LR.

For why Iraq-type fields evaluate 15S at all, see Why Iraqi oilfields favor API 15S RTP.

Yard: reels staged before the convoy

Before the road move, black RTP reels are lined in the yard. That step is where packing, tarp, axle load, and escort assumptions should already be frozen on the RFQ — not discovered at the gate.

Road: blue-tarped spool convoy

Highway photos show blue-tarped spools on flatbed trucks moving as a convoy. Tarps protect the product and signal oversized / weather-aware road moves. What we do not claim: a specific highway name, police escort contract, or transit hours.

Port / multimodal: ship deck and trailer lifts

At the water edge, reels move between ship deck and truck / trailer under shore and ship cranes. The photos show multimodal reality for oversized spools. We do not invent the port city, terminal operator, vessel name, or sailing schedule.

Iraq south site receive: truck + crane unload

On the Iraq south receiving side, trucks deliver reels for crane unload (including SANY-class mobile crane lifts visible in field photos). This closes the logistics chain into the same project envelope as the install case: 6″ / 1500 psi / 85 °C / 10 km / 2025. Digging the trench and pulling the string is covered in the case post — not here.

RFQ fields for logistics (copy into the next bid)

  1. Product: onshore API Spec 15S RTP — size class (e.g. 6″) and design envelope already agreed (1500 psi / 85 °C on the published case, or your numbers).
  2. Length / reel plan: total km and preferred max reel size / weight class (TBD if unknown — better than a guessed tonnage).
  3. Packing: tarp, cradle, lashing, spare end-fitting kit location.
  4. Multimodal: origin yard → road → port → destination country (Iraq) — Incoterm preference as buyer’s choice, not invented by this article.
  5. Site receive: crane capacity, laydown footprint, night/day limits.
  6. Docs: packing list, handling limits (bend radius / max lift), and who owns damage inspection at each handoff.
  7. Do not mix: 15S spool logistics with 15HR / 15LR GRE stick-pipe crates on the same line without splitting scope.

FAQ

Is this the same as the trench-install case? No. That post covers the project envelope and install. This post is yard → road → port → site crane.

Can you publish door-to-door days or freight cost? Not without a priced logistics RFQ. Photos are handling evidence, not a freight tariff.

Is this GRE 15HR shipping? No. API Spec 15S spoolable RTP only.
