The development of the industrial world in various countries, especially the oil and gas industry, makes companies engaged in that field want to use strong and durable pipes. And one of them is fiberglass pipe, because fiberglass pipe can withstand pressure up to 3000psi.
There are various types of fiberglass pipes in the industrial world, depending on what they are needed for.
-> Glass Reinforced Epoxy
GRE (glass reinforced epoxy) is a type of fiberglass pipe with Epoxy Resin as raw material mixed with Hardener and wrapped using a Hoop roving above the mandrel and operated using a helical winding machine.
There are 3 types of fiberglass pipe;
- Wavistrong (low pressure)
This type of pipe is usually used to drain water or cable casing. Wavistrong pipes use the main raw materials of Epoxy resin, hardener, and hoop roving. Starting from diameter 50 – 600mm and strong pressure ranging from 1 – 40 bar. The connection system is also quite easy because it has been set with various types of pipes, for example such as FBFS which is joint and locked using rubber and Teflon seals.
This type of pipe uses the main raw materials of Vinylester Resin, catalyst, and hoop roving. This type of pipe is almost the same as the Wavistrong pipe, only different from the type of raw material.
- Yellow Box (high pressure)
This type of pipe is a fiberglass pipe that can withstand up to 3000psi. And this pipe is often used to drain oil and gas, because the yellow box joint system using threads can certainly withstand high pressure from the inside.
-> GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester)
GRP is a fiberglass pipe made using the main raw material of Polyester Resin. The manufacture of this pipe uses a Continues Filament Winding machine. This machine is capable of making pipe sizes Dn 350 – 4000mm with 3 types of material for the Reinforce part. There are PCN types that use silica sand in the Reinforce layer, VCN which uses Vinylester resin in the Liner, PCT / Full glass which is made using only Polyester Resin – Catalist – hoop roving – Chop roving without using silica sand in the Reinforce section.
There are also various types of pipe joint methods, some use pipe coupler, stainless coupler, and use laminate joints.
As the name implies, Continues winding which means this machine continues to produce without stopping. Starting from the Liner – Skin 1 – Reinforce layer – Skin 2 /outer layer – Tissue – Heater – continue to cut. The length can also be adjusted on the main drive panel up to 18 meters, after that the machine cuts the pipe automatically and Quality Control will check the product after the pipe is on the pipe stand.
